Privacy Policy — “Maqnas Maps”

Who we are

Maqnas Maps is a Gulf navigation app developed by the Maqnas Maps team.

Data we collect

• Account: with Sign in with Apple we receive a unique Apple identifier (and your name/email if you allow it). A random 6-digit member number is created for you.
• Saved places: name, coordinates, category, reminders and visit history, stored on our server under your account.
• Settings: voice, phrases and alert preferences.
• Location: used on your device for guidance and reminders; your movement history is not stored on our server, except the tracks you choose to record yourself (see “My tracks”). Your location is sent to our server only: (1) when you save a place, record or send a track; (2) for friends location sharing — only after both people accept; only your latest position is kept (no history) and it is deleted when sharing ends, is stopped, or the account is deleted; (3) for the “rain nearby” alert (subscribers) — your position is sent at check time to compare it with the radar image and is not stored linked to your identity.
• Sharing between members: nobody can see your location unless you accept their request. You choose the duration (12 hours or until you stop), and you can stop sharing or block a person at any time. Anyone who knows your member number can send you a sharing request or a track; nothing is saved on your device until you accept.
• My tracks (tracks you record): a track you record is stored on your device and, when you are signed in, also in your account on our server (simplified route points, name, start and end time) so it is available on your devices. Nobody else can see it unless you send it to another member yourself. It is deleted from the server when you delete it in the app or delete your account. Without signing in, tracks stay on your device only.
• Tracks sent between members: a sent track (route points) is stored on the server until the recipient accepts or ignores it, and is deleted with the sender’s or recipient’s account.
• Notifications: if you allow notifications we store your device token (from Apple) linked to your account to deliver sharing-request and track notifications; it is removed on sign-out or account deletion.
• Camera (optional): in “Sky” the live camera image is shown behind the star names only if you turn it on. No photos or video are captured, stored or sent.
• Motion sensors and compass: used on your device only to know where the phone is pointing in “Sky”; readings are never sent to a server.
• Subscription: we receive the transaction receipt from Apple to verify the subscription. We never see or store payment details.
• Offline maps (optional): when you download a satellite-imagery area for offline use, the app asks our server for a short-lived token tied to a random device identifier (or to your account if signed in), then downloads the tiles through our Cloudflare gateway. The imagery is stored on your device only; the area name is not sent, and you can delete it from within the app at any time.

Third parties

• OpenAI: navigation instruction text is sent through our server to generate voice. Your location and identity are not sent.
• Rainbow.ai via Cloudflare: rain-radar imagery is requested through our Cloudflare gateway which relays from Rainbow.ai; they see requested map tiles (an approximate area) without your name or email.
• Open-Meteo: weather forecasts are requested directly from your device using approximate coordinates.
• Apple: maps and routing (MapKit), push notifications (APNs), sign-in and subscriptions.
• Public datasets bundled in the app: permitted drone zones (Qatar Ministry of Interior bulletin, approximate boundaries), nature reserves (Qatar Geoportal), publicly announced volunteer rescue team numbers, and the HYG star catalogue. They are refreshed from our server without sending any data about you.
• Esri via Cloudflare: satellite imagery for offline maps is requested through our Cloudflare gateway which relays licensed Esri World Imagery tiles; they see the requested map tiles (an approximate area) without your name or email.

What we do not do

• We do not sell your data or share it with advertisers.
• We do not track you across other apps or websites.
• We do not knowingly collect data from children.

Retention and deletion

Your data is kept while your account exists. You can delete your account and all its data (places, visits, settings, sent/received tracks, sharing relationships, device token) in the app: Settings → Account → “Delete account and all my data”. Deletion is immediate and permanent.

Security

Connections to our server use HTTPS; sign-in sessions are stored hashed on the server and in the iOS Keychain on your device.
